Trees are budding and flowers are blooming, but is your home still in hibernation? If the answer is 'yes,' then it's time for a thorough house cleaning! The change of season is a prime opportunity to eliminate the clutter and give surfaces a thorough scrubbing. Get your family to pitch in and divvy up the chores so that they get done faster. Throw open those windows, turn on some music and start cleaning room by room. Here are some cleaning tips:

Kitchen
This room probably gets the most use, so set aside extra time for this important task. After all, it's likely you spend a lot of time in here anyway. Tackle big appliances first, including the refrigerator, oven and range. You'll want to discard expired food and wipe away spills and stains. Cooking grease can build up on vent hoods and surrounding cabinets over time, so address these with the appropriate cleaners: all purpose cleaners or stainless steel wipes for the vent and a mild wood soap for your cabinetry. Take some time to organize your cupboards, clearing out things you no longer use. Pretty shelf liners can improve the look, too. Wipe down counters and vacuum and mop the floors. If you have a dishwasher, run a cycle with a  special cleaning agent  to get it glistening clean.

Bath
Moisture and soap scum can do a number on your bathroom. Address mildew issues in the shower with a  non-toxic shower cleaner  paying special attention to grout lines around tile. Disinfect the toilet and wash basins. Vacuum and mop tile floors, and wipe down vanity mirrors with glass cleaner.

Bedroom
You'll sleep soundly in a pristine bedroom, free of dirt and mess. First, grab your sheets, pillows, mattress pads and comforters and start doing laundry. Take down draperies or window treatments and clean them according to the manufacturer's directions. Vacuum and flip your mattress, if necessary. Clear out dust bunnies from under your bed. Finally, dust and vacuum your bedroom like you normally would.

Family Room
Between pets, kids and hanging out, the family room can become a magnate for dust and clutter. After wiping down shelves and electronics with microfiber cloths, you'll also want to thoroughly clean all upholstered furniture. Remove the cushions and vacuum every nook and cranny. If the fabric is washable, spot clean stains with a  mild upholstery cleaner.  Be sure to clean picture frames and your television remote, too. Clean the floors with a vacuum and follow with a damp mop on hard surfaces, if necessary.

Whole House Projects
While you're at it, don't overlook the details that you might not make time for on a monthly basis. Cleaning your windows is a great way to welcome spring. New  outdoor window cleaning products can help you get the job done faster. Wipe down your light switches, doors and light fixtures. You'll be surprised how much dirt can pile up over a few months.
